Ghost Pokemon

Ghost type pokemons are an interesting species in the world of Pokemon. Prior to changes to Generation IV, all damaging ghost type moves were physical. One unique characteristics of ghost type pokemon is that they are immune to both fighting type attacks and normal type attacks. Ghost types can are also guaranteed to run from wild battles regardless of speed.

Most of these pokemons are found in dark places as they tend to like scaring humans at night. The more scared a human is, the harder the ghost Pokemon will prank them. They are usually connected to fear and the afterlife. They can easily be found in abandoned places, cemeteries, funerals and even caves. A prime example is gengar. They also have very high special attack stats compared to other types.

One of the most famous ghost trainers in the Pokemon series is Agatha, a member of the Elite four in the Kanto region. She is 100% a tough opponent to beat in the game as well.

Steel Type Pokemon

Steel Type was introduced in generation 2 of Pokemon history (both in the games and TV series). One of the main mechanics in all the Pokemon games is to train your Pokemon and battle with other trainer's Pokemon. This means that players have to analyse which Pokemon are best for Offense and Defense.

Steel Types was not from the first generation of Pokemon but was later added to create a balance from previous types of the first generation. They are immune to Poison Types and have one of the highest defensive statistics compared to all other Pokemon types.

Steel Type Pokemon typically have moves that are physical in trait and can hold off many attack types due to their high defense. There are dual-types (Two different types of element on a single Pokemon) and the highest and most resistant combination is Electric/Steel Types. Because of their exceptional defensive capabilities - Steel type generally have below subpar Offensive stats.

Grass Pokemon

Grass-type pokemon are one of the three starting pokemon types in the game, accompanied by water and fire type pokemon. Most grass pokemon have well balanced defence statistics, however are susceptible to fire, ice, poison, flying, and bug moves.

Although, grass pokemon have an advantage as they are super effective against water, ground, and rock types. All together and as of generation VII, there are 98 grass type pokemon in the game which makes up 12.2% of all pokemon.

An example of some grass type pokemon moves are absorb, grass knot, leech seed, magical leaf, and synthesis. These moves specialise in regaining health for the user as well as a high powered grass type attacks. You are probably wondering what kind of grass pokemon exist, so here are some pictures.

Ground Pokemon

The strongest type of an offensive pokemon is the ground type pokemon. This type is super-effective against 'Five' other different types of pokemon and this pokemon move called 'earthquake' is the strongest move in the pokemon game allowing the pokemon to have power and a '100%' hit accuracy. However, there is a disadvantage to this type of pokemon as many of them are dual rock types making it lumbering with "4x Grass and water disadvantages."

These are the notable trainers who specialise in Ground-type Pokemon:

  1. Giovanni of Viridian City
  2. Bertha of the Sinnoh Elite Four
  3. Clay of Driftveil City
  4. Hapu of Poni Island

From adjustments in Generation IV,  all physical moves were from ground type pokemon, but depending on the attack it can now also be special (special moves). Additionally, there is a total of 75 ground type pokemon that exists in the pokemon world.

Flying Pokemon

Another type of Pokemon is the Flying type. Pokemon belonging to this category are often based on either birds or insects, or possibly mythical creatures, like a dragon.

Pokemon who are of the Flying type usually have Flying as their secondary type, and this is more often normal.

Three of the notable trainers for the Flying category of Pokemon are:
  • Falkner - Violet City Gym Leader
  • Winona - Fortree City Gym Leader
  • Skyla - Mistralton City Gym Leader

One handy trait of Flying Pokemon is that there is no effect caused by Ground Pokemon. Grass, Fighting and Bug Pokemon are not very effective against Flying Pokemon, while Electric, Ice and Rock Pokemon are super-effective against Flying Pokemon.

There are a total of 113 Flying Pokemon. An example of a common Flying Pokemon is Pidegy. An image of Pidegy is found below.

Fire Types

Again, the fire types is one of 18 types of Pokemon. It is one of the starter types where players can choose from when they start the game aside from grass and water.
Fire types have slightly a lower number of species compared to the other types. The creators made fire types based on land animals known for their predatory instincts.

For fire specialist trainers, they need to be aware of ground, rock and water moves as they are super effective against fire. Fire type Pokemons are known for their strong offensive abilities as it is super effective against 4 types which are bug, grass, ice and steel.

Overall, despite fire types having below average defensive stats, they often tend to have good speed and high attack stats as well as looking very fierce in their designs. A prime example would be Charizard.

Electric Pokemon

Electric-type pokemon  (Japanese: でんきタイプ= Electric type) are one of eighteen types of pokemon in the pokemon universe and is either a rodent or an inanimate object. Because of this, there is only a total of 60 electric-type pokemon that exists in the pokemon universe, and only '4' of that type were very first added in the third generation. Positively, with an uncommon amount of the electric-type pokemon, they are one of the two types to be known with very good defense and only being weak to ground-type pokemon.
Most importantly, there is a very popular and cute electric-type pokemon that is the sidekick of the main protagonist in the pokemon show which is "Pikachu." Either you are a pokemon fan or not, this electric-type pokemon is very phenomenal for its characteristics and its traits,
On the righthand side is a picture of Pikachu and below are some examples of electric-type pokemon

Water Pokemon

Pokemon of the water variety are especially abundant throughout the pokemon universe. Specifically, water type pokemon are one of the three starter pokemon's in the game, in addition to grass and fire type pokemon. All together, it is merely one of the eighteen different classes of pokemon within the franchise, and as of Generation VII.. there are 133 water type (16.6% of all pokemon) in the game which makes it the most common sub-class.(https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Water_(type))

Water pokemon cause double the amount of damage to fire, ground, and rock type pokemon. However, it's extreme weaknesses in electric and grass type moves holds water pokemon accountable for their certain advantage in other areas. (https://pokemondb.net/type)

Below are some examples of the different types of water pokemon throughout the game:

Introduction: The Squad

Hey guys, Here's our first post for our blog. A quick introduction:

My name is Kuo (Elvin), I'm one of the five members in Class 36, Group 5. We were supposed to be Group 1 but the teacher got mad jealous and now we're 5. Which is still okay. Our other members are Taiga, who is designated leader of this group for the remainder of this assignment. The other three are Wilson, James, and Chris. In today's class we discussed what we'd like to blog about as our main topic and have come to agree on writing about Pokemon.

For us millennials - Many of you will know what Pokemon is. But for those who don't know - Pokemon is a franchise that spans over video games and film but further expands over theme parks and many other merchandise (trading card games and plushies).

Pokemon is set in a fictional world that spans over many regions. The universe is populated with humans and animal-like creatures called "Pokemon". In this universe the humans who call themselves "Trainers"capture these Pokemon and tame them as pets or for battling other Pokemon. A lot of these trainers consider their Pokemon, their "best friend".

This blog will be about all things Pokemon. We as a team will explore the types and attributes of different Pokemon and discuss what we think are the least popular and most popular among them.

But before we do - Where did this idea of Pokemon and it's universe come from?

The franchise started simply as a hobby by a person named Satoshi Tajiri. Satoshi as a child had a hobby of catching insects and tadpoles near his home in suburban Tokyo. His idea spawned over time when he wanted to re-create the same feelings he felt as a child when catching insects. When the Game Boy and Game Boy Game Link Cable was released - Satoshi had a vision of insects travelling along the wire of the Link Cable. And so, the first idea was pitched to Nintendo as "Pocket Monsters" (Which is later changed to Pokemon).
