Bug type

Bug Type

Pokemon that belong to the Bug type often grow quickly, and evolve much sooner than the other types. As a result of this rapid growth, bug type Pokemon are generally quite weak. In earlier generation Pokemon games, like Generation I, bugs were almost useless as the limited moves utilised by bug Pokemon were very weak. As different Pokemon generations elapsed, there was an increase with better available moves, as well as an advantage against the Dark type.

Bug type Pokemon are ranked last, out of all the other types, in HP (Health Points) and special attack. They also rank very low in attack and special defence, 15th and 17th respectively.

Four notable trainers are:
·      Bugsy – Azalea Town gym leader
·      Aaron – Elite Four
·      Burgh – Castelia City gym leader
·      Viola – Santalune City gym leader.

A very common bug pokemon is Caterpie. It is a first generation Pokemon:

Legendary and Mythical Pokemon

Variety of Legendary Pokemon from different games.

Throughout this blog page - A lot of us have mentioned legendary and mythical Pokemon that are exclusive to their own games. In anime - Legendary Pokemon are only introduced in full feature films based around them. In the anime they are talked about but rarely show an appearance. In the games - Legendary Pokemon can be caught only once per game and have no gender (unknown) with a few exceptions.

They have a major role in the games as a celestial being that is worshiped by certain groups of people. And as the protagonist you get to encounter them once for a chance to catch them.

Legendary Pokemon have abilities different to normal Pokemon in the sense that some of them are able to control time and others, weather. Some legendaries come in duos or trios - For example the Pokemon Latios has a counterpart called Latias (One in red and other blue colours) and are two different Pokemon but are tied in history and lore of the games.

Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver

Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver
Pokemon HeartGold and Pokemon SoulSilver remakes of Pokemon Gold and Silver. They are paired Generation from Generation IV  and the remake from Generation II. Similarly to Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen, it is revisited from Generation I the story of Kanto. HeartGold and SoulSilver the new games retell the story of Johto. These games were released on 2010 in North America, September 12, 2009 in Japan, 2010 in Australia and March 26, February 4, 2010 in Korea, March 14, March 25, , 2010 in Europe.

The motive of this Nintendo game is to catch your favourite pokemon and battle your way to become the very best, as well as completing tasks. What makes this game diverse from any other pokemon games is that it is a remake from the older version of the game and the elements from "Pokemon crystal" is plotted onto them.
In total, there are 493 pokemons available in the "National Dex"(National Dex is Pokedex that has been upgraded with the national mode).

Pokemon Red and Blue

Pokemon Red and Blue was released in 1996 in Japan, followed by 1998 in America and Australia. Originally, the roots of this game were a development on the previously released pokemon yellow, and was an adaption made on Nintendo for GameBoy devices. The game is played in a third person perspective taking on the role of the protagonist, Professor Oak's grandson, and begins travelling throughout the world of pokemon in order to exclusively "catch em all!" This phrase is a universally known saying, in which encourages the player to spend countless hours within the game, levelling up pokemon, exploring the depths of the Nintendo franchise, and most importantly.. catching each and every one of the pokemon. Now that may seem a bit far fetched, but it is a quite an achievement. While the player seldom catches every single pokemon, however most of the fun and enjoyment within the game is found in deciding not to unnecessarily catch mid-to average pokemon, and focuses on levelling up their favourite pokemon types/characters that this game has to offer. Overall, the game received high ratings from critics and was loved by everyone.

Pokemon Diamond and Pearl

Pokemon Diamond & Pearl

Pokemon Diamond & Pearl are Nintendo games that were released on the '28/09/2016' in Japan, '22/04/2007' in North America, '21/05/2007' in Australia and '27/06/2007' in Europe. What makes these games special from the previous games are that they are the first core series of pokemon games to be released with 'generation IV' pokemon.

The 'pokedex' (an invaluable tool for trainers which is a digital encyclopedia) in the game includes a total feature of 151 pokemon. However, the strange thing about these games is that they do not include all the new pokemon in this generation.
The three starter pokemon once you start playing the games are:
  • Tutrwig (grass type pokemon)
  • Chimchar (fire type pokemon)
  • Piplup (water type pokemon)

However, the legendary pokemon that you can obtain in Pokemon Diamond is Diaglo (steel/dragon type pokemon) and in Pokemon eParl is Plakia (water/dragon type pokemon). Otherwise, other legendaries that are in the game can both be obtained.

Pokemon Sun and Moon

This blog will be about one of the newest versions of the pokemon game series. They are known as sun and moon. These two games were announced on February 27, 2016.

Unlike the other pokemon games, the game starts with a video call by the Professor to the player. Meanwhile, the game shows a young girl escaping from a lab with an unidentified pokemon which looks really rare in her bag. As she is about to be caught by workers there, the pokemon teleports itself and the girl to an unknown place. The real game then starts 3 months after that incident in which the player and that unidentified pokemon have a big role in the game play.

From first hand memory of playing this game, it was similar but with many new features as compared with the old pokemon games which were only on the classic game boy. This game has much more pokemon within including new and old ones so the player has more options of building a strong team. I feel the game is also a bit easier compared to the old ones as there is always someone telling you where to go, so players won't get lost. I also found this game much easier than the previous ones, including catching legendary Pokemon, finding certain pokemon and defeating gym leaders. I completed this game in about two weeks compared to the old ones which took me about a few months. This game also allows certain pokemon to evolve within the game instead of having to do trades like in the game boy days which proved to be quite a hassle. Overall I rate this game a solid 8/10.

Poison type

Poison Type

A further type of Pokemon is poison type. The poison type of Pokemon is often regarded as the weakest offensively. In earlier editions of Pokemon, like before Pokemon X/Y, poison was only effective against grass. However, with many of grass types being dual poison, this effectiveness was greatly reduced. Poison types now have the added advantage against the recently introduced fairy type. In the very early first generation, poison was also highly effective against bug, but this was later changed. Poison Pokemon generally fares better defensively, then offensively, but it’s best advantage is through status moves, for example toxic.

Grass, fighting, poison, bug and fairy types of Pokemon are not very effective against poison types.

Some of the more known poison type trainers are:
·      Koga – Fuchisa City gym leader
·      Janine – Fuchisa City gym leader
·      Roxie – Fuchisa City gym leader

Bulbasur is one of the most common types of Pokemon, and is dual grass and poison. Here is what Bulbasat looks like:
